Airkenya offers daily flights to Samburu, a magical haven of unblemished natural beauty on Kenya's Northern Frontier District. It is home to many species of wildlife, including several unique to the region like the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy's Zebra, Beisa Oryx, Kirk's Dik-dik, Gerenuk and the blue legged (Somali) Ostrich.
The breathtaking mix of wood and grasslands on one hand, with riverine forest and swamp on the other, are home to a wide variety of birds too. Samburu and the neighbouring Buffalo Springs has recorded over 400 species of birds; including Kingfisher, Sunbird, Bee-eater, Marabou Stork, Tawny Eagle, Bateleur, Guinea fowl and Palm-nut Vultures. Other more common residents are lions, cheetah, buffalo and with luck, you will spot the shy leopard lying lazily in a tree. You will also see large herds of elephant making their way to the muddy waters of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the morning or on their way up to the hills in the evening!
Samburu offers vistas of rounded, rugged hills and undulating plains.
Two mountains, Ololokwe and Koitogor stand out, and River Uaso Nyiro is the source of life in the reserve. At sunset, Doum palms form breathtaking silhouettes against the red and gold streaked sky.
The climate is hot and dry. Activities include: game viewing, cultural excursions, bird and nature walks. Game viewing is excellent all year round.
